The event will consist of an overview of the project Forming memory. Monuments in Central Europe, followed by a presentation of photographic documentations of artistic actions and two short films: The Fall of Lenin (dir. Svitlana Shymko, Ukraine 2017) and Through Tempests the Sunrays of Freedom) (dir. Irmina Rusicka, Poland 2017).
Forming Memory is a project underlining the importance of cultural translation of historical, cultural and socio-political contexts without adapting foreign cultures and transferring them to other national cultures. By comparing different monuments from Central Europe and their multi-layered history, it strives to the denationalization of culture. The project consists of artistic activities and lectures – called “travelling conference” – in places of remembrance in Central Europe.
Forming memory. Monuments in Central Europe, is financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage as part of the Multiannual Program INDEPENDENT 2017-2021, as part of the grant program of the Adam Mickiewicz Institute "Cultural bridges".
Polish Modern Art Foundation (fundacjapsn.pl), established by Piotr Nowicki in 1985, is one of the first independent non-profit institutions in Poland, operating in the field of culture.
