János Mátyás Kovács is Senior Felllow at RECET, Institute of East European History, University of Vienna, Permanent Fellow Emeritus at the Institute for Human Sciences (IWM), Vienna, and Senior Lecturer at the Department of Economics, Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest. His research fields include history of economic thought in Eastern Europe, history of communist economies, political economy of post-communist capitalism, economic cultures after communism, and institutional economics. Currently he runs a long-term research project on “Between Bukharin and Balcerowicz. A Comparative History of Economic Thought under Communism”. He is the editor of Reform and Transformation. Eastern European Economics on the Threshold of Change, (1992) (with Márton Tardos); Transition to Capitalism? The Communist Legacy in Eastern Europe (1994); Capitalism from Outside? Economic Cultures in Eastern Europe after 1989 (2012) (with Violetta Zentai); and Populating No Man’s Land. Economic Concepts of Ownership Under Communism (2018).
