Perspectives on Nation and State-Building in Ukraine - a Round-table Discussion
On April 1st, the Department of History held an expert round-table discussion, introduced by the Rector and President of CEU, Prof. John Shattuck. Rather than catalyzing a political debate, the provided an opportunity to bring together various scholarly perspectives to offer a better understanding of the process of Ukrainian nation and state-building, with its concomitant dynamics of integration and dis-integration, and with a special eye on the regional context, especially Russia, that has been in the focus of attention during the last months. Relying on the expertise of the speakers from Kyiv and the invited CEU faculty, the Panel examined some of the key issues, combining historical, sociological and anthropological insights, to assess the pre-history of the current crisis and the possible scenarios.
