Siefert Chosen as First New York University Fellow in Russia and Ballet

March 3, 2016

Marsha Siefert, Associate Professor in History, is currently the inaugural fellow in the study of Russia and Ballet, co-sponsored by the Center for Ballet & the Arts and the Jordan Center for the Advanced Study of Russia, both at New York University. During the spring semester at NYU, she is exploring how Soviet filmmakers screened their most famous cultural export – Russian ballet - through a Soviet lens for an international audience.  In particular, she will look at Soviet films co-produced with the West to analyze how Russian ballet was portrayed in scenes and biographical films to create ties across the Cold War divide.
