The Department of History at Central European University (CEU) invites applications for an assistant professor position in Habsburg Studies. Candidates must have the capacity to develop a convincing and innovative program for research and teaching in topics related to the history on the Habsburg Empire and its multiple legacies, connecting to the Department’s focus of comparative empires. While the chronological focus of the candidate’s research is open, candidates should be able to cover in their courses the long-term processes shaping this area from the early modern period to World War I. In keeping with the Department’s strong emphasis on interdisciplinary and cross-cultural studies, we seek applicants whose research and teaching accommodate contemporary approaches in diverse sub- and neighbor disciplines. We are particularly interested in a research portfolio focusing on political institutions and political culture; cultural and art history; social structures and conflicts; mobility and migration. German language competence and the working knowledge of one more regional language is a requirement. Applicants must hold a PhD degree.
