This lecture by a practitioner of the genre is divided into three parts: History as Fiction and vice versa; The Historical Detective, and Writing Novels of Historical Detection in Nineteenth Century Russia. The lecturer is the author, under the pseudonym G. K. George, of three historical detective novels, “To Kill a Tsar” dealing with the assassination of Alexander II, “Kiev Killings” which deals with the pogroms in Ukraine after the assassination and “Siberian Secrets” which deals with the exile system.
