CEU`s Department of History Ranks in QS Top 100

Central European University is pleased to announce that five of CEU’s academic programs were ranked among the top 100 in the world, and two others in the top 200, by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) in its global subject rankings.

“Our university is proud to have secured re-accreditation here in Hungary, where we belong, and we’re delighted that we’re ranked among the world’s top universities in so many disciplines,” said CEU President and Rector Michael Ignatieff.

History Alumnus Goran Miljan Publishes New Book

Goran Miljan received his PhD in Comparative History from the Central European University in Budapest where he specialized in the history of World War II in Central and Southeastern Europe. Currently, he is as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Holocaust and Genocide Studies at the Hugo Valentin Centre, Uppsala University, Sweden.

Eda Guclu receives Best Dissertation Award

It is with great pleasure that we are announcing that one of the recipients of the Best Dissertation Award - by the decision of the University Doctoral Committee - for the Academic Year 2017/18 is Eda Guclu. The title of her dissertation is  Social Practices of Property in Nineteenth-Century Istanbul, her Supervisor is Tolga Esmer.

Medals and shells, the remnants of natural and human past, are often seen as clues leading to different ways of thinking about the world. But is it possible that thinking about shells may enrich our understanding of medals? This was one of the questions raised in the public lecture of Carlo Ginzburg, professor emeritus at UCLA, delivered at CEU on May 24th.
