Rolf Bauer, born 1984, is an economic and social historian. He is interested in the history of modern South Asia, drugs, commodity frontiers, disasters, and peasant studies. In 2019 he published his PhD thesis The Peasant Production of Opium in Nineteenth-Century India with Brill. Currently, he’s working on an edited volume on labor relations in global agriculture, which will be published in the Studies in Global Social History Series (Brill). In spring 2021 Bauer was a guest professor for global history at the University of Vienna. He has been teaching in the global history, development studies and South Asian studies programs at Vienna University since 2014. Fall 2021 is his first semester at CEU.
