Ahmet Bilaloglu Receives Gerda Henkel Grant

We are happy to report that our PhD student, Ahmet Bilaloglu will be a recipient of the Gerda Henkel Grant for completing his research in several archives and libraries in Europe. Ahmet's widespread research interests include early modern Ottoman cultural and intellectual history, Ottoman literature and historical writing and the production and dissemination of knowledge in the early modern Ottoman world. Our congratulations to him!

Professors Szende and Iordachi have been appointed as "University Professors"

Katalin Szende, professor at the Department of Medieval Studies, and Constantin Iordachi, professor at the Department of History were awarded the prestigious title of “egyetemi tanar” by the President of Hungary, Janos Ader. The title, which literally means “university professor,” indicates a high ranking within Hungarian higher education. The appointment is effective March 1, 2020.

Habsburg Albums from the German House in Constantinople

Assistant Professor Robyn Dora Radway’s research on the people living in the Habsburg Embassy in Constantinople was recently featured by the Gerda Henkel Foundation in a series of short videos. These videos, available in English and German, showcase some of the exciting interdisciplinary research going on in our department at both our Budapest and Vienna campuses.

People in Motion: Entangled Histories of Displacement across the Mediterranean (1492-1923)

Taking off in September 2019, People in Motion (PIMo) is a four-year global research project undertaken by scholars from the humanities and social sciences, including historians, scholars of literary, visual, and material culture, philosophers, mathematicians, and maritime, biological, and bio-behavioral sciences.  It addresses the entangled histories of displacement of human subjects within and from the Mediterranean from the fifteenth to twentieth centuries.
